New and returning members of the Elementary Honor Society were recognized today at the induction ceremony at Tom Jack Lucas Auditorium.

The Lufkin High School National Honor Society was held on Wednesday, March 20 in the Tom Jack Lucas Auditorium. Ninety-two new members were inducted into the program.

Kudos to all of the students at Coston Elementary who performed in the Winnie the Pooh Musical directed by music teacher Sarah Jackson.

“I wanted to bring awareness to theater education and the importance of theater—skills and passions that I think are involved with theater, like communication, team building, and teamwork,” Joel Hernandez said.

Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA), Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. The NEA wants to make sure that all children have access to books.

Congratulations to the winners of the Black History Month Essay and Art Contest. The winners received a $50 Visa Gift Card from our contest sponsors at the Angelina County Citizens Chamber of Commerce.

The Citywide Track meet is for students who qualified on their home primary/elementary campus to participate in a variety of track events against other students across the district.

“When I grow up, I want to be a scientist or an astronaut,” fifth grader Bray’aunna Delane said.

The judges at the East Texas Regional Science Fair in Kilgore in February were so impressed with Cailyn’s project that she received a special invitation, bypassing state competition to enter the international science fair.

“I am ecstatic about the opportunity to create partnerships and support programs for the Lufkin ISD students and families in my new role as the Project Director for the Stronger Connections Program,” Dr. Johnson said. 

Everyone has a story. The first Lufkin Living Library Event made that evident. The event was a unique collection of “human books” held on Monday evening at the Museum of East Texas.

R2 GEAR UP has fourteen Lufkin Middle School eighth grade students selected to participate in the GeoFORCE Academy for the next four summers.

The students got to climb aboard their favorite vehicles, honking horns, flashing lights and operating some controls under supervision.

Brookhollow Elementary held its first Nacho Average Family Night on Monday, Feb. 19.

“I am blessed and honored to have the opportunity to continue serving our students, teachers and families in my new role,” Adriana Solis said.

“I believe that my CTE classes have prepared me for my future career because I would like to get a job in the sports media industry,” Kate Amend junior at Lufkin High School said.

“I looked him up on Facebook,” said Brandi Moreland, Lufkin Middle School Language/Arts teacher. “He friended me and after conversing back and forth, he came to Lufkin.”

“Resemblance,” Nevaeh Williams, fifth grader from Brandon Elementary, said when asked why she drew a picture of Claudette Colvin, the American pioneer of the 1950’s civil right movement.

“It’s this type of program that can initiate healthy eating habits that can last a lifetime,”
