“Following Lufkin Independent School District’s decision to withdraw from the Stubblefield Learning Center Cooperative, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the students this program has served. To maintain and enhance the educational opportunities for these students, Lufkin ISD will establish its own alternative education campus, opening the door for a higher standard of support and opportunity. Our alternative education campus will provide tailored, individualized pathways that meet each student’s expectations academically, emotionally, socially, and in any other capacity the student may need. This initiative aims to provide all students with the comprehensive framework necessary for their success and development. By directly managing our own alternative education services, Lufkin ISD is positioning itself to provide a superior level of support, aligning with state educational standards and accountability requirements. In doing so, our campus will become an official campus with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the State of Texas.
Students currently enrolled at Stubblefield who are not graduating this spring will not return to Lufkin High School or Panther Academy. Instead, they will continue their educational journey at Hackney School, differing from the disciplinary side of this campus. Our new alternative education campus will be staffed with qualified teachers, counselors, and any other additional personnel needed. All of them are current Lufkin ISD employees, ensuring no additional costs will be incurred by the district. We will remain focused on meeting the needs of each student, providing the necessary resources and support to ensure their continued academic success. Lufkin Independent School District’s alternative education services will be firmly student-centered and committed to addressing the diverse needs of all students during this transition and beyond.”
