Starla Hill began her educational career 20 years ago, dedicating her entire tenure to Lufkin ISD. At Slack Elementary, she taught 4th-grade Reading and Science, 3rd-grade ELAR/Math Transitional, and 5th-grade Dual Language. Throughout her time in the classroom, she was actively involved in campus life, serving on various committees, sponsoring Student Council, coaching the LMS Twirling Team, and introducing the Latino Literacy Project to the school.

In 2014, Mrs. Hill joined the team at Coston Elementary, serving as an Instructional Coach there until she was named Principal of the campus in 2021. When asked to reflect on her time on the Coston campus, Mrs. Hill shared, ”Coston has been more than just a school, it has been a family. The students, staff, and community have made this journey unforgettable, and I am beyond grateful for the love, dedication, and passion that fill these halls. While change is never easy, I will always cherish the incredible memories and the impact we’ve made together. Coston will forever hold a special place in my heart.”

Now as Mrs. Hill transitions into her new role as the principal of Brandon Elementary, she looks forward to bringing the same commitment to excellence, fostering a strong school community, and supporting student success. “I am truly honored and excited to serve as the principal of Brandon Elementary next year. I look forward to building strong relationships with students, staff, and families while fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. Together, we will continue to inspire growth, creativity, and a passion for lifelong learning.”

A proud graduate of Lufkin High School, Starla earned her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University. She later pursued her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and obtained her Principal Certification from Stephen F. Austin State University. Additionally, Mrs. Hill has served as the TEPSA Region 7 Treasurer and Secretary during her time as a principal.

Mrs. Hill comes from a family deeply rooted in education. Her parents, Starkey and Sheila Sorrell, still reside in the community, and her mother’s 34-year career as an educator served as her greatest inspiration. “I saw the profound impact my mother had on her students, and that inspired me to pursue a career in education. My goal has always been to help others and instill a lifelong love of learning in my students.” Starla has been married to her loving and supportive husband, Kipp Hill, for 14 years. Together, they enjoy spending time with family, exploring the outdoors, and traveling.

The District is excited to name Starla Hill as the Principal of Brandon Elementary for the 2025-26 school year.  Mrs. Hill is an outstanding leader, dedicated to the pursuit of unlocking the potential of Lufkin ISD.

Mrs. Hill will take the lead from Pam McClendon, current Brandon Principal, who is set to retire at the end of the 2024-25 year. LISD is grateful to Mrs. McClendon for her service of excellence, and wishes her the best in her new adventures.
