Lufkin Independent School District has been diligently working to renovate the Lufkin Middle School Auditorium, restoring its functionality and preparing to host future performances. This historic space has been sitting empty and unused for several years during the new middle school construction, creating an inconvenience not only for students who have been practicing and performing at alternative locations, but for parents, staff, and the community as well. LISD recognizes this and is excited to report that recent renovations and upgrades are nearing completion, and will enable the school district to proudly reopen the facility to both students and the public soon.

As part of Phase II of the renovation project, extensive updates were made to the dance classrooms, dressing rooms, restrooms, parking lot, and connecting hallways. The latest enhancements also include new stage curtains, advanced stage lighting, a new sound system, and cutting-edge technology to control these systems. Fine Arts teachers at the middle school, such as Tara Thompson, are excited about the latest capabilities of the light and sound boards, which allow the lights to change through a variety of colors, preset options, and the ability to create custom presets.

The major overhaul of this space will also allow for the school district to make the auditorium available for public events, with an online rental application soon to be accessible through the Lufkin ISD website.

This renovation is a significant step in revitalizing a key community space while enhancing the educational experience for students in the district.
