It is with excitement and enthusiasm that Mr. Carl Abseck was named as the new Panther Athletic Director and Head Football Coach in this morning’s special meeting of the Board of Trustees of Lufkin ISD. Coach Abseck is a goal-oriented, success-driven, and passionate coach who will model the work ethic, integrity, selflessness, and enthusiasm required to achieve in sports and life.
In his profession, Coach Abseck is highly decorated and respected as a leader, bringing twenty-eight years of coaching experience with the last ten as head coach, campus coordinator, and athletic director. He was named Coach of the Year in 2015, and his overall record as a head coach is 102-27, with a playoff record of 22-9. He boasts 150+ Academic All-State recipients and is a five-time regional semi-finalist, three-time state quarterfinalist, one-time state semi-finalist, two-time state finalist, and two-time state champion.
Originally from Bridgeport, Texas, Coach Abseck is married with two children. His career started at Wichita Falls High School, where he spent eight years before heading to Cedar Park to make a historic run of success. Most recently, Coach Abseck is credited with rebuilding and improving the overall athletic program at Barbers Hill. There, he has significantly increased participation in boys and girls athletics, as well as has been responsible for designing and building over 20 million dollars of facility expansions and renovations.
Much more than a head football coach, Carl Abseck is a highly visible and engaged athletic director who expects and works to build vertically and horizontally aligned programs from pre-athletics to varsity sports, emphasizing middle school work is what builds championship high school programs. A father of a former player stated, “he even went to the middle school and youth league (games), and had his other coaches do so as well.” Coach Abseck is committed to ensuring the maximum number of games for sub-varsity sports, promises that both boys and girls programs will receive equal attention and time under his leadership, and will use his extensive network to build a dynamic coaching staff. His many references, including parents of former players all say he is a man of “integrity, values, compassion and empathy, and truly values all students.” He is said to be, “a coach you can actually talk to.”
Coach Abseck is a program builder and champion. Over the past three years, his school district has been in the top 13 of the Lone Star Cup. He recognizes that students come from and experience different backgrounds, and builds relationships by meeting students where they are.
Lufkin ISD is proud to welcome Coach Carl Abseck, and looks forward to building championship programs and mindsets, on and off the field, under his leadership.
