Lufkin ISD proposes Change Order to update and re-open the Lufkin Middle School Auditorium
November 19, 2024
During a discussion at today’s work session, Lufkin ISD Trustees heard a Change Order proposal that promises to re-open the Lufkin Middle School Auditorium shortly with lighting, sound, and stage renovations.
With the construction of Lufkin Middle School nearing completion, the board recognizes the need for attention to the auditorium, which has remained untouched by updates during this project. Today, a Change Order was discussed, allowing the district to use funds to breathe life back into this facility. “We recognize the hardship the lack of access has placed on our students and community in promoting the various forms of Fine Arts. Upon approval of the change order at Thursday’s board meeting, the renovation will begin quickly. As such, the LMS auditorium will be open to host performances very soon. The upgrades will be noticeable and enhance the experiences of our students and those who access it.” Dr. James Hockenberry, Lufkin ISD Superintendent, shared.
Board President Kristi Gay went on to express her appreciation to the community during this period of closed access. “We want to thank local businesses, community members, and parents for your patience as we look to complete this important project.” Specific reopening information will be available soon. The goal is to be booking the space by spring.
