Lufkin ISD has some fantastic news for the upcoming 2024-25 school year!

Despite past financial challenges, the district is poised to achieve a balanced budget and a remarkable 2.5% pay raise for Lufkin ISD employees. Dr. Hockenberry, Lufkin ISD superintendent, expressed gratitude for the collective effort in evaluating cost savings while ensuring salary increases for the dedicated staff.

During the recent budget workshop meeting, Jill Gaston, the Chief Financial Officer, characterized the proposed budget as “conservative” and highlighted the potential for additional revenue with increased student attendance.

“This was a team effort,” Gaston said. “Without the collaborative spirit of many, this achievement would not have been possible.”

This focused and synergistic approach showcases the district’s proactive and forward-thinking mindset.

Despite the challenges presented by frozen state legislation funding, Lufkin ISD implemented various strategies to achieve a balanced budget. This decisive action underscores the district’s commitment to financial responsibility and sustainability while recognizing the importance and value of the Lufkin ISD staff.

The board is set to approve the budget and proposed compensation plan at a special board meeting on August 29, marking a significant milestone for Lufkin ISD’s journey ahead.

“This extraordinary step in such a short period is just the beginning of our journey to return Lufkin ISD where it belongs, the preeminent school district in our region and state,” Hockenberry stated.
