Dr. Andre Emmons has been named the Executive Director of Operations and Safety for the district. In this role he will assist the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services in working with auxiliary services and school safety.
Dr. Emmons earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of North Texas in Denton, Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership both from Stephen F. Austin State University. Dr. Emmons has a superintendent and principal certification.
He started his educational career at Lufkin ISD in 2006 when he was the Lufkin High School assistant varsity and head junior varsity basketball coach and teacher. In 2012, he took a position as the boys’ head basketball coach at Crockett ISD where he was named District Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2015. He went on to become the high school principal at Diboll ISD where he also held positions as the girls’ athletic coordinator, campus testing coordinator, truancy clerk and assistant principal. For the past two years, he has served as the principal of Lufkin High School.
“While I will miss all aspects of my role as principal at Lufkin High School, it is the daily interactions with students and staff that I will miss the most,” Emmons said. “I have been incredibly fortunate to work with such an amazing group of people, and I am grateful for the memories and relationships that we have built together.
“I understand that this position comes with great responsibility, and I am committed to upholding the high standards of Lufkin ISD. I am looking forward to collaborating with our district team and every school in our district to continue to develop and implement effective policies and procedures that prioritize the safety of everyone in the district.
“Dr. Andre Emmons will bring experience to his new position with Lufkin ISD,” Superintendent Lynn Torres said. “He will work closely with the administrative team to ensure success in auxiliary services and safety measures in the district. We look forward to his collaboration on the Lufkin ISD team.”
“The thing that I am most excited about in my new role is the opportunity to ensure that Lufkin ISD is one of the safest districts in the nation,” Emmons said.
Emmons is married to Annysue, a nurse practitioner, and they have two boys AJ and Alex.
