Business Students Travel to Corpus Christi to Participate at the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference
Four students from Lufkin High School will be attending the Business Professionals of America 2018 State Leadership Conference, in Corpus Christi, February 28 – March 3. Lufkin High School chapter members Jackson Hester, Montana Russaw, Daniela Ramirez, and Samantha Standley will join over 2,800 other conference delegates from across the state to participate in state level business skill competitions, general sessions, and state officer candidate campaigns and elections.
The Regional Leadership Conference was held January 27 at Dayton High School. In individual competition, Jackson Hester placed 2nd in Fundamental Accounting, Montana Russaw placed 1st in Fundamental Desktop Publishing, and Daniela Ramirez placed 4th in Fundamental Spreadsheets. In team events, the Admin Support team of Hester, Russaw, Ramirez, and Samantha Standley, placed 1st overall. Samantha Standley also made state alternate in Prepared Speech.
Business Professionals of America is a national organization for middle school, high school, and college students preparing for careers in business and office occupations. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. Business Professionals of America acts as a cohesive agent in the nationwide networking of education and business and industry, and is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.
This is the first year for the Lufkin students to participate in the BPA competitions. Advisors for the Lufkin High School chapter are Sonja Stephens and Ryan Schuldt.
