Dr. Angela Johnson has been named the Project Director for the Stronger Connections Program. Through the Stronger Connections grant, Dr. Johnson will be responsible for building a student support program to address school climate and establish a student support team structure aligned to the training and support provided by the Texas Center for Student Supports and the regional ESC. She will be tasked with creating local partnerships with Licensed Professional Counselors to provide intensive counseling for Brandon Elementary, Lufkin Middle School and Lufkin High School.
Dr. Johnson has served in education for 16 years and joined Lufkin ISD as a GEAR UP Coordinator starting in 2022. In previous roles, she was a Learning Experience Designer and Distance Education Coordinator in the Center for Teaching and Learning at Stephen F. Austin State University. She was Interim Dean of Science and Math and Lead Faculty member at Angelina College. Dr. Johnson’s passions drive her with a holistic approach to supporting students academically and non-academically.
Dr. Johnson is also a Lufkin native and a graduate of Lufkin High School. After high school, she earned her Bachelor and Master of Science in Biology from Stephen F. Austin State University. She later completed her Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Abilene Christian University.
“I am ecstatic about the opportunity to create partnerships and support programs for the Lufkin ISD students and families in my new role as the Project Director for the Stronger Connections Program,” Dr. Johnson said.
She and her husband, Casey Johnson, have two sons, Hank and Hoyt. During their time together, they enjoy sports and the outdoors.
