Students from Lufkin High School created pieces of artwork that are on display at the Black History Month Celebration Art Exhibit at the Temple Theater on the campus of Angelina College. N’chelis Phipps painted a “Reflection of Childhood” that is from a photo of him as a child. LaPrincia McCloud painted “Fruits of our Labor” that depicts two African American girls with grapes. Timera Garret made a mask with papier-mâché titled “A Remnant of Life with Death”. She said the mask was made to represent slavery that although many escaped they were still not free. Another form of art was created by Zariyah Albro who read two of her poems at the exhibit reception opening night that she wrote and performed.
