In a Public Hearing of the Lufkin ISD Board of Trustees, the 2020-2021 tax rate was approved. Chief Financial Officer Charlotte Bynum presented the property tax information.
The tax rate is as follows:
Maintenance & Operation $1.0381
Interest & Sinking $0.286
Total $1.3241 per $100 valuation
In other news, Superintendent Lynn Torres reviewed the number of virtual learners.
“Currently we have less than 22% of virtual learners,” she said.
She informed the board that 313 returned to face-to-face learning this week and more were in the process at the high school.
The state requires the district to submit an Asynchronous Learning Plan to TEA that will be reviewed. Assistant Superintendent of Education Services and Accountability Shelly Slaton presented the board with the plan on Tuesday at the Board Work Session to submit the plan by tomorrow. The state will send comments on the plan back to the district.
“The plan could be returned in three days or three weeks,” Torres said.
The board approved the purchase of land at 507 MLK Blvd. The land is adjacent to Garrett Primary and will serve as a future parking lot.
The next board meeting is scheduled for October 15, 2020 at 6 p.m. at the Lufkin ISD Administration Building.
