Lufkin High School Principal Brandon Boyd announced that Julie McManus has accepted the position of Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at the high school. Shelly Slaton, who was recently in the position, has been named the district’s Assistant Superintendent of Education Services and Accountability.
Mrs. McManus graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU) with a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Her undergraduate education and teaching certification are both focused on special education services for students. In addition, she received a Masters of Arts in Counseling from SFASU. She continued her education and received credentials as a Licensed Professional Counselor. After completing her counseling certification, Mrs. McManus earned her Principal Certification from SFASU. She has 20 years of experience in education, with the last 17 years with Lufkin ISD serving as a teacher, counselor, and Director of Counseling.
As the Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction, she will facilitate how learning is conducted and which assessments will be given. She will implement course offerings, advanced academics, and programs at the high school.
Lufkin High School principal Brandon Boyd said, “We are excited to have Mrs. McManus join our LHS administrative team in a different capacity. Her knowledge and experience from her previous position as Director of Counseling will be beneficial in aligning with the expectations of her new role. Her work ethic and her love for the students of LHS is second to none.”
Mrs. McManus is married to J. T. McManus and they have two children, Macy, a student at Lufkin High School and Tripp, a Lufkin Middle School student.
Mrs. McManus said, “I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue serving Lufkin High School students and staff in a new capacity. I am grateful for such a wonderful and committed staff at Lufkin High School and I’m looking forward to the 20-21 school year and many years beyond.”
