The steel beams are going up at the new Lufkin High School Multi-purpose building. The brand-new building will stretch over 65,200 square feet and house a competition gym, practice gym and cross-court volleyball. The facility will also be used for assemblies, pep rallies, competitions for events such as robotics and other school sanctioned activities.
With weather delays and the Coronavirus, the project was a little behind, but according to GLS Project Architect, Hudson Henderson, now the steel is going up quicker than expected.
He said, “Right now, steel erection continues. I would say we are about 40-45% complete with that. Plumbing, electrical, and concrete continue to be installed. Next up, we will get the roof on and begin CMU (concrete masonry unit) walls. When the walls go up, it will really start to take shape!”
