Lufkin attorney, Wayne D. Haglund, has been selected as a Texas Super Lawyer in the category of Schools and Education for the year 2024. This marks the twenty-first (21st) consecutive year that Haglund has been named as a Texas Super Lawyer, each year from 2004 to 2024.
The selection of Texas Super Lawyers is based upon a review and selection by peers in the State Bar of Texas. It honors only the top 5% of lawyers in Texas.
Haglund has also been rated “AV Preeminent,” by Martindale Hubbell’s rating service, representing the highest possible peer rating for an attorney, for both high ethical standards and legal ability. This rating is achieved only after being reviewed and recommended by peers who are members of the Bar and by the judiciary. Mr. Haglund has been rated “AV Preeminent” every year since 2004.
Haglund has been honored by the School Law Section of the State Bar of Texas with the Kelly Frels Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest award given by the School Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.
Haglund previously served as the Chair of the Texas Association of School Boards Council of School Attorneys and as the Chair of the State Bar of Texas School Law Section. Mr. Haglund had served as the outside legal counsel for the Lufkin Independent School District far 46 years before he was employed as the Legal Counsel by the District in January 2023. Mr. Haglund has served as counsel to the Board of Trustees of Angelina College since 1976 and is a charter and continuing member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Community College Attorneys.
Mr. Haglund is a frequent speaker at schools and educational law conferences on both the state and national levels and has practiced law since 1975, after graduating from the University of Texas School of Law.
We are proud to have Mr. Haglund serving the students and staff of Lufkin ISD and are thrilled to recognize his well-deserved honor.
