Erin Kay has been named the new Executive Director of Teaching and Learning after Kathy Jost announced her retirement after 37 years of service to Lufkin ISD.
Born in Lufkin, Kay has served the District for 17 years in various roles including, science teacher, Academic Decathlon Coach, LHS Instructional Coach, LPAC Coordinator, District Textbook Coordinator and most recently as Director of Science and Social Studies & District Support. Kay also serves as the TX ASCD Region 7 Affiliate and is seated on the Board of Directors for Instructional Materials Coordinators’ Association of Texas (IMCAT).
She earned her degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University including a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Geology, a Master of Educational Leadership and Superintendent certification.
“Erin brings an exceptional work ethic and a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role,” Shelly Slaton, Assistant Superintendent of Education Services & Accountability, said. “Her complete devotion and wholehearted commitment to Lufkin ISD, along with her genuine passion for helping teachers excel for our students, are truly admirable. I am excited to work alongside Erin in her new position as Executive Director of Teaching & Learning.”
Kay is married to Ronnie, and they have two sons, Ricky and Larson, who are both graduates of Lufkin High School.
