Last night, Lufkin Middle School administrators opened the front doors of the newly designed middle school to the public to witness the beautiful completion of Phase II of the bond project. Never before has the entrance of the school been from Tulane Drive, but now parents can pick up students and have easy access to other services such as the counseling center and nurse’s office from the front of the school.
Other projects completed in Phase II included connecting the two buildings from the 7th and 8th-grade wing to the 6th-grade and electives wing. The cafeteria is now complete, the auditorium remodeled, the elective wing finished, and the 6th-grade wing is also complete.
Next to come in the final phase will be the media center, which includes the library, multi-purpose room, cafeteria bathrooms, and a Special Education Department wing. The new design by GLS architects, constructed by Berry & Clay Construction, is bright and airy, with beautiful colors and durable surfaces built to last.
Phase III is on track to be finished by the end of 2024, completing the school bond that the community voted for in 2018. That bond included baseball and softball fields at the high school, the Panther Activity Center at the high school, and the final project to be completed, Lufkin Middle School.
