AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM & COMMUNITY SHOWCASE NIGHT WAS A HIT!
To welcome parents and students to the Texas Afterschool Centers on Education program at Lufkin ISD, the community turned out to show support of our students. The Afterschool Program is so much more than having a place to stay during those hours, it’s enrichment and activities provided by the best that our community has to offer. It’s also about the parents and how we can support them.
Lufkin ISD received a federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant in the amount of $7.5 million to be used over five years. The program is in the third year of service. In Texas, the 21st CCLC program is called the Texas Afterschool Centers on Education program, or 21st Century-Texas ACE. These programs aim to improve student attendance, behavior and academics while providing safe supplemental learning space for students.
The program does not cost a dime to our parents, but they are encouraged to get involved in parent enrichment programs offered free of charge. These expanded learning opportunities for children and their families offer innovative hands-on activities that reinforce and complement students’ regular academic programs.
Monday will be the first day for the afterschool program to kick off. Call (936)634-0058 for questions about the program.
