Dr. Monique Nunn
Dr. Monique Nunn has been named the new Director of the LHS Gear Up program. The Gear Up program helps students prepare to be successful for high school and beyond. The current director, Vickie Evans, is retiring after a long-standing career at Lufkin ISD. The program is a federally funded grant to service the students in the Class of 2024 and 2025. This is the fourth time Lufkin ISD has received this prestigious grant.
Dr. Nunn has her Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunication from Baylor University, Master of Arts in Student Personnel Services from Northwestern State University, and her Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. She has served as the Gear Up coordinator since 2019. Before that, she worked at Stephen F. Austin State University as a Transfer Coordinator, CONFIANZA Grant Coordinator & Director, and Generation TX Grant Coordinator. She has also worked on the campuses of Angelina College and the University of Mississippi.
“Dr. Nunn was an excellent choice for this position. Her background with SFASU allowed her to work with numerous federal grants and she has been involved in our Gear Up grant as a grade level coordinator. Dr. Nunn will bring her expertise to the leadership role as we see this grant to completion with the class of 2024 and 2025,” said Lynn Torres, Superintendent of Schools.
In her new position, Dr. Nunn will oversee the day-to-day operations of the program and develop a work plan in accordance with goals, objectives, and funding limitations to implement parent and student programs.
“I am so proud of the relationships and the work that we have already done with both the Classes of 2024 and 2025, so I am extremely honored to be able to continue as the Director and see this grant through to its fruition,” said Dr. Nunn.
