Angela Dean has been named the Director of Early Childhood Education. The current director Kathy Thannisch will be retiring at the end of the school year. Mrs. Thannisch has been with the district for 40 years.
Mrs. Dean attended Stephen F. Austin State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master of Education with Reading Specialist certification. Mrs. Dean began her career in education 16 years ago, as a 3rd grade Reading Language Arts teacher. She has worked in various roles with students, including working as a dyslexia teacher for four years.
In 2017, Mrs. Dean joined Panther Nation as an instructional coach for Trout Primary. She was able to grow professionally in leadership capacities in the district and on campus through committees and facilitator positions.
“We look forward to Angela Dean joining the District Education Center as the new Director of Early Childhood Education. Angela will be an excellent resource for all of our teachers and our district. You can’t be around Angela without noticing her love for our littlest learners,” said Lynn Torres, Superintendent of Schools.
Mrs. Dean has been married to Jared Dean for 13 years. They have two daughters Emmersyn and Andersyn, who attend Lufkin ISD.
“I am dedicated to ensuring the success of all students through exceptional learning opportunities centered in research-based educational practices. It is an honor to serve Lufkin ISD, collaborate with great district leaders, and support teachers as the Director of Early Childhood,” said Mrs. Dean.
