LHS senior Darah Lawrence was selected as one of seven finalists in the 1st Congressional District Art Show. Darah’s artwork titled “Looking for Love” was created with graphite and ink. She is in her second year of Advanced Placement Art at Lufkin High School. Awards for the competition will be announced on December 16th.
According to Congressman Louie Gohmert’s website (https://gohmert.house.gov/constituentservices/artcompetition.htm):
Each year the Congressional Art Competition provides members of the U.S. House of Representatives an opportunity to showcase the artistic talent of high school students within their districts. Students from the 1st District of Texas can submit one piece of original artwork for the opportunity to have their work displayed in the United States Capitol for one year. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
