Each year, members of the Nuestras Madres committee put together an event that is completely in Spanish in order to provide information to parents who otherwise might would have a language barrier. According to Evento en Español event coordinator, Elizabeth Lopez, the event was definitely a success. The weather may have kept some away, but Mrs. Lopez said the crowd was good and the sessions were very educational.
Mrs. Lopez said, “I had people tell me the sessions were helpful. It was a good night.”
Students from Burley primary and Lufkin Middle School performed, and LaUnica provided a hot plate dinner. Parents were able to attend sessions with information on immigration to academic courses. Two students were recognized for their accomplishment of being a National Hispanic Recognition Student. Cy Murphy and Hilda Cuello Gonzalez received a book from Superintendent Lynn Torres. The Evento committee also recognized the Communities Cinco de Mayo board for their contribution to Lufkin ISD and our community.
Thanks especially to the Nuestras Madres committee and volunteers for putting together such an outstanding event.
