Janice Holcomb was awarded the 2017 Sponsor Excellence Award by the University Interscholastic League Director of Academics, Mr. David Stevens, Ed.D., at the February board meeting. Mrs. Holcomb was selected for the award for her outstanding representation in UIL accounting over the past 20 years.
Lufkin Middle School student Pranav Rao was recognized by the board of trustees as the winner of the Individual Spelling competition at the Kiwanis Spelling Bee. His winning word was prevaricate. He will participate in the Scripts Bee in Houston on Saturday, April 7th competing against 50 spellers from the South Texas region. The winner will advance to Washington D.C. for the National Spelling Bee. He is pictured with his coach Mrs. Mary Satterwhite.
Philip Callaway was given a certificate of excellence by the board of trustees for making the Texas All-State Tenor-Bass Choir. He will compete in San Antonio, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as part of the 2018 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. He was chosen for this prestigious honor through a competitive process held this year across the state at District, Region, and Area levels. This is Philip’s first time to perform as a member of a TMEA All-State organization. He is pictured with his teacher Mrs. Laura Hoelewyn.
